Former MSU standout signs free agent deal with Utah Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY -- Former Midwestern State standout Eric Dawson signed a free agent deal with the Utah Jazz earlier this week.
 
The 6-9, 255-pound forward most recently played in the Philippines' Summer League where he averaged 18.2 points, 15.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 2.3 steals and 2.2 blocks per game for the Blackwater Elite.
 
Dawson has played professionally for 11 teams in eight countries including a successful run in the NBA Developmental league during the 2011-12 season when played four games for the San Antonio Spurs. He was the 2012 NBA D-League Impact Player of the Year for the Spurs' affiliate, the Austin Toros, who were coached by current Jazz leader Quin Snyder.
 
Dawson's career includes stops in China (Foshan and Heilongjiang), Dominican Republic (Metros de Santiago), Iran (Petrochimi), Japan, Korea, Puerto Rico (Leones), NBA (Atlanta Hawks and San Antonio Spurs), France (Chalon/Saor), Phillipines (Meralco Bolts), and NBA D-League (Austin Toros).
 
Dawson averaged 16.6 points and 10.6 rebounds in two seasons (2005-07) at Midwestern State. He earned All-LSC first-team honors in both seasons and was a Basketball Times second-team All American while helping the Mustangs to a conference title and a NCAA regional appearance in 2007.
 
He led all of college basketball with 23 double-doubles (points-rebounds) in 2006-07 and remains the program's career leader in blocks with 170.
 
Dawson joins Marcus Paige (North Carolina), Quincy Ford (Northeastern) and Henry Sims (Georgetown) as players who have signed on with Utah for the chance to compete for a roster spot during training camp.
