WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Head coach
Scott Linn and the Midwestern State women's tennis program inked their second signee for the 2016 class Tuesday with the addition of Arizona native Ashley Ramirez.
A Scottsdale product, Ramirez will join the two-time defending Lone Star Conference champions and 2015 NCAA Elite Eight participants this fall after a standout prep career at Cactus Shadows High School in Cave Creek, Arizona.
A two-star recruit and currently rated the sixth-best player in Arizona and top-100 player in the Southwest Region, Ramirez has spent her time playing No. 1 singles and doubles for the Division I Falcons at Cactus Shadows.
Since 2012, Ramirez has claimed 10 titles on the USTA junior circuit
in Arizona and Montana. She made two finals appearances in 2015, posting a runner-up finish in singles at the Paseo Semi-Sweet 16 in Glendale, Arizona, while also collecting a doubles title at the Western Montana Open in Missoula.
In 2013, Ramirez took home seven championships, sweeping the singles and doubles titles at the Junior Western Montana Open, while making three additional appearances in championship matches during the year. She won the 16 Doubles title at the 2014 Arizona Junior Challenger in Tucson while also winning the same honor at the Junior Flathead Valley Open in Kalispell, Montana, in 2012.
Ramirez has been an Honor Roll student at CSHS her junior and senior years and is the daughter of Dave and Amber Ramirez.
Ramirez is the second signee in the 2016 women's tennis signing class, joining Cypress native Anna Claire Gerletti, who signed her National Letter of Intent during the early period in November.
