Carter named Daktronics second-team all region

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State's Andrea Carter garnered Daktronics second-team All-South Central Region honors as announced Thursday by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
The junior forward from Angleton, Texas played a key role in helping the Mustangs advance earn a berth in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional by posting an 18-11 record this season.
 
Carter, a Daktronics honorable mention All-American last season, earned first-team all-region accolades last season is a two-time All-LSC first-team performer. She earned league defensive player of the year status in 2013 and was named to the inaugural all-defensive team this season.
 
The 5-10 forward came on strong down the stretch for the Mustangs scoring 20.1 points and pulling down 9.4 rebounds per game to up her season averages to 16.4 points and 9.0 rebounds a game.
 
Carter posted 11 double-doubles while scoring 20-or-more points in nine games.
 
She earned LSC Postseason All-Tournament honors after pouring in a career-high 29 points and pulling down 12 rebounds in a semifinal round overtime loss to No. 5-ranked West Texas A&M.
 
Tarleton State's Kiara Wright was tabbed South Central Region Player of the Year posting averages of 20.1 points and 12.5 rebounds a game while shooting 61.1 percent from the field.
 
Wright was joined on the first team by Newman (Kan.) sophomore guard Alexandra Ciabattoni (20.3 points, 6.8 rebounds), Colorado Mesa senior guard Sharaya Selsor (24.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists), West Texas A&M senior forward Devin Griffin (14.9 points, 6.9 rebounds) and Regis (Colo.) senior forward Tae'lor Purdy (21.8 points, 10.2 rebounds).
 
Joining Carter on the second team were Colorado-Colorado Springs junior guard Abby Kirchoff (20.9 points, 6.6 rebounds), Texas A&M International senior forward Malika Jackson (16.5 points, 9.2 rebounds) and senior guard Samantha Chacon (16.0 points, 4.2 rebounds) and St. Mary's (Texas) senior guard Jackie Woods (17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds).
