WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State dropped 12 spots to No. 16 in the latest American Football Coaches' Association Division II Poll released Monday afternoon.

The Mustangs suffered their first season opening loss since 2000 in a 20-17 setback to Tarleton State Saturday night in Stephenville.

MSU is one of 11 teams in the newly formed Super Region Four which now includes the Lone Star Conference, Great American Athletic Conference (GLIAC), Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) to receive mention in the poll.

Colorado State-Pueblo leads the way at No. 3 followed by No. 4 Grand Valley State (Mich.), No. 10 Saginaw Valley State (Mich.), No. 14 Texas A&M-Kingsville, No. 16 MSU, No. 19 Wayne State (Mich.), No. 20 Abilene Christian (Texas) and No. 23 Colorado Mines while West Texas A&M, Tarleton State and New Mexico Highlands are receiving votes.

The Mustangs are the midst of a short week of preparation for Thursday's Lone Star Football Festival showdown with Texas A&M-Commerce at Cowboys Stadium. The game will be broadcast nationally on CBS College Sports.

Midwestern State has received votes in 73 of the last 74 AFCA polls dating back to the 2006 season.  Â
