Mustangs get big bench performance to roll ACU, 84-62

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Chris Hagan didn't score his first point until the final minute of the first half Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

And the Lone Star Conference's leading scorer finished an off night struggling to a 3-of-11 shooting night to close with a season low seven points.

But the No. 21-ranked Mustangs proved they were more than just Hagan Show as the bench piled up 47 points to lift MSU to an 84-62 LSC South Division win over Abilene Christian.

With the win, the Mustangs extended their home court string victories to 37 games and ended their first two-game losing skid since the 2008-09 season. MSU moved to 13-3 on the season and to 1-1 in division play.

Senior guard Adrian Van Buren connected on three treys in the first half as the Mustangs led by as many as 15 points in the opening half and maintained a double digit lead throughout the second half.

The Midland native tallied 11 of his team-high 14 points in the opening half and was joined in double figures by Charlie Logan (14 points, four rebounds) and junior forward Thomas Colbert, who tallied 10 points and six rebounds to go along iwth four blocks before fouling out in 21 minutes.

Hagan led a 25-assist MSU attack with eight helpers while Kevin Loyd came off of the bench to can a pair 3-pointers and added a seven assists in 26 minutes.

Eric Milam led a quartet of ACU players in double figures with 15 points while Preston Davis had 14, Vladimir Gravranic had 12 and Alex Richman pitched in 11.

Midwestern State plays host to Eastern New Mexico Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. or 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game which begins at 6.

Abilene Christian falls to 8-6 and 0-2.
