WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State jumped ahead six spots to No. 2 in the latest NCAA Division II South Region Rankings as released Tuesday afternoon by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association.
The Mustangs placed five runners under the 19-minute barrier while taking second at the 5K Missouri Southern Stampede last Saturday in Joplin.
MSU's strong showing was paced by senior
Sydnee Cole who set a new school 5,000-meter record with a time of 18:08.35, but was followed very closely by
Brissia Montalvo, who clocked an 18:08.88.
Freshmen
Ashley Flores (18:20.05),
Janel Campbell (18:29.27) and
Cara Mack (18:53.89) rounded out the Mustangs' counters as the team finished second to NCAA Division I Tulsa at the meet as the Golden Hurricane finished with a perfect score.
Midwestern State competes in the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree Saturday in Stillwater.
