McCasland named TABC Small College Coach of the Year

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State's Grant McCasland was named Small College Coach of the Year Wednesday by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

McCasland guided the Mustangs to their best season in school history as the team posted a 31-3 mark and advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the first time since the school made the jump out of the NAIA in 1995.

Midwestern claimed its second-straight Lone Star Conference championship and third in the last four years and claimed its first NCAA II South Central Region championship with a 60-59 win over Central Missouri before falling in the national quarterfinals in Springfield, Mass.

McCasland is no stranger to postseason awards as he was named 2010 Lone Star Conference South Division Coach of the Year. He was named 2007 NJCAA Coach of the Year and was the TABC Junior College Coach of the Year after guiding Midland College to a junior college national championship.

McCasland also garnered South Central Region top coaching honors this season by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
